Board of Directors
The First Stage Board of Directors consists of elected community and parent representatives who oversee the financial management, policy development and general operations of First Stage Child Care Centres.

The Board of Directors for FSCCC would describe their role as one of servant leadership. Through a close collaboration with the Program Manager and the site Supervisors, the Board aspires to improve the lives of the children they serve, and thus build a better community.
The role of the Board of Directors is to:
Ensure the effectiveness, sustainability and reputation of FSCCC
Provide strategic direction for the organization
Create an operating framework of policies and procedures
Support FSCCC leadership and staff growth
Manage fiscal responsibilities
Board members meet on the last Tuesday of the month from September through June (with the exception of December). Information regarding the dates, locations and times for the meetings can be obtained from the site Supervisors. All meetings are open to parents and staff.
The Annual General Meeting is held in March or April. AGM notifications are posted 21 days prior to the meeting dates at each of the sites.
2017-2018 Board Members:
Suzan Hall - Chair
As a Trustee on the Board of Education for the City of Etobicoke, Suzan was a part of the original group that supported and worked for the creation of First Stage Child Care Centre. As a result, West Humber Collegiate was the first student based centre to be built with the full support of the Board of Education. Suzan was instrumental as a Trustee and a member of the First Stage Board in achieving the expansion to Burnhamthorpe, North Albion & Highfield. Suzan also served in Ward 1 as a City of Toronto Councillor for ten years from 2000 to 2010. Suzan has continued to participate in a number of community organizations and has been a part of FSCCC for over 30 years.
Derek Willie - Vice Chair
Derek recently joined FSCCC in 2018 and brings with him more than 20 years of marketing expertise within the telecommunications and human capital management industries. Derek volunteers with various organizations across the GTA such as Knightsbridge, Junior Achievement and various local events that showcase Toronto’s unique cultures. Derek loves to work within organizations that are in the midst of transformation as the opportunity for change presents a unique window to innovate and disrupt the norm. Derek is married to his high school sweet heart Sharon and they share three beautiful boys between the ages of ten and eighteen and we love to travel, fish and dine as a family.
Waqas Siddiqui - Treasurer
Waqas has over 15 years of experience working in the field of technology and telecommunications and also holds his Engineer license from PEO. In addition to his current full-time position with Centrilogic, Waqas is also a part-time Professor at Humber College in the Department of Applied Technology. Waqas volunteered as big brother with Big Brother and Big Sister of Canada for 5 years other among opportunities. Waqas has helped small businesses, friends, family and a lot of students over the years with education, mentoring and business strategies decisions to help them grow their careers and businesses. He brings to the Board a strong knowledge of operation management, continuous improvement, finance, budgeting and engineering practices.
Elad Sharon - Director
Elad joined the board in 2017 and he brings experience in financial management, strategic planning and business development. He is an entrepreneur and an experienced Finance leader. Among his roles, Elad was the CFO of Kangaroo Group and a Senior Director for Financial Operations in The Salvation Army. In addition, Elad was the founder of a real estate investment company and a dessert factory. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and an MBA from U of T.
Charlotte Staats - Director
Charlotte has recently joined FSCCC and is excited to be part of the team that is working to support the continued growth and creative spirit of FSCCC. Charlotte has an educational background in working with children with special needs and over 20 years’ experience as an HR professional. Her commitment to giving back to the community is a strong belief and she is dedicated to bringing not only her professional experience but her passion to ensure all children are afforded the same opportunities for an environment that fosters learning and development.
Fizza Khalid - Director
Fizza joined FSCCC in the summer of 2018. She is a recent graduate who is passionate about helping and mentoring students for success. She continues to volunteered with various nonprofit organizations, as a Big Sister with Big Brother and Big Sister of Canada and an active member of Pathways Canada. She has strong commitment to giving back to the community not only within her professional field but also commit her personal time to foster and develop opportunities of change around the GTA.
Ilan Zor - Director
Ilan Zor is Director of Regional Sales at CIBC Asset Management. Ilan and his team work closely to help design highly-sophisticated investment solutions. He works closely with top advisors to help drive their business forward and address their concerns through detailed implementation of value added solutions.
Prior to joining CIBC in January of 2013, Ilan worked for several financial companies and also served as an officer in the Israel Defense Force for four years.
Ilan holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Ryerson University and MBA from Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.
Casara Willis - Parent Rep
Casara has been with FSCCC since 2015, she brings a different perspective to the group. With being in the Public Services and Commercial Sector Field for the past 10 years, Casara's main focus is on being the voice of the parents at FSCCC and making sure that their opinions and concerns are being heard.
